Business-class air travel has become increasingly exclusive over the last few years, with airlines like Virgin and Lufthansa designing special executive-level sections in their planes for travelers who demand more space, sleeping berths and lounge and meeting areas while in flight.
This year, American Airlines jumped on the bandwagon when it unveiled a new ‘suite’ option in its business class on longer flight planes. The protected, private compartments are designed like alcoves, and feature a door and a seat that converts to a sleeper. In keeping with the demand for in-flight team collaboration, the individual units can be connected to form a larger common area for work sessions, meetings, meals and social down time.
The new suites will be installed in American’s long-range planes: the Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR models in the company’s stable. Concurrent with its announcement of the new suites, American also announced upsell economy seating for travelers who desire more room without a premium ticket cost.
